Our Mission:
Since 1986, the Glendale Community College Scholars Program has provided students with advanced academics, offering them opportunities for intensive study. Scholars students excel in academic, community service, and social contexts.

Academic
Scholars is an Academic Program

Scholars students benefit by taking at least 15 units of Honors classes, which are typically rigorous general-education, pre-major, and a variety of other courses that serve students well to be well-rounded and ready for upper-division coursework at the 4-year institution that they will attend next, as well as their careers beyond that. Scholars students who complete the Program in good standing for both academics and participation to the point of transfer are evaluated for certification by the Director and the Scholars Counselors. If eligible and certified, Scholars have an enhanced chance of being accepted to UCLA (through its Transfer Alliance Program--TAP). The Scholars Program also has an Honors-to-Honors agreement with UC Irvine. In addition, as a member of the Honors Transfer Council of California, Scholars provides opportunities for enhanced consideration for admission at several partner colleges nationwide. See a list of those partner colleges at the HTCC website: www.honorstransfercouncil.org/transfer-partners
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

- Nelson Mandela

Community
Scholars Is An Active Community-Service And Charity Organization
All year long, Scholars student committees work hard to raise money, donate time and effort, and support various causes on campus and in the community. Last year, we were involved with study groups on campus; several fairs and events at GCC, including a gift drive with the Food Pantry and local shelters; several fundraisers; and several charity events in conjunction with John Muir Elementary, the Glendale Open Arts and Music Festival, and Hope Hollywood, to name just a few. The Scholars student Cabinet meets with Dr. Harnett (the Scholars Director) on a weekly basis, and is composed of the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, plus the Directors of the Outreach, Fundraising, Events, Community Service, and Journal Committees.
"Community cannot for long feed on itself; it can only flourish with the coming of others from beyond, their unknown and undiscovered brothers."

— Howard Thurman

Social
Scholars Is A Dynamic, Supportive Social Club On Campus
In the family-like environment of Scholars at its best, students form alliances and friendships that make their time at GCC highly meaningful as well as productive. The Events and Fundraising committees schedule frequent events each month, often together, to give Scholars a chance to get to know each other and have a wonderful college experience.
"The world is round so that friendship may encircle it."

— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
