- The Scholars Program Contract must be completed in order to begin the Program. It outlines the responsibilities and commitments expected from new members. Scholars are expected to read and understand the Scholars Constitution, which is usually revised before each semester. It is available for download below on this page. All new Scholars are also required to meet for an Entrance Interview with Dr. Harnett to review Scholars Program policies and discuss the program and their involvement in it. It will be counted as part of the participation in the program.
- The Scholars Honors by Contract is a last resort to make one class only count towards Honors Credit for the Program. However, it will not be recorded as an Honors class in your transcript). Meet with Dr. Harnett as you are planning your classes to discuss options, at any rate well before the deadline (the end of the second week of Fall or Spring, the end of the first week of Winter or Summer) if you are thinking of doing a class in the Honors By Contract arrangement. Again, only 1 contract may be done in the time you are in Scholars. Please note that you will need to show that you cannot take any of the designated Honors/Scholars courses that have been arranged by the academic divisions especially for you and all Scholars. If it becomes clear that the contract is the only viable option, then the Honors By Contract form will be provided. The next step is to meet with the instructor to determine whether that instructor is willing to provide an Honors Component for the course, which is entirely up to him or her to approve or refuse. If the instructor approves it, that form will need to be filled out by you and the instructor, showing the specific assignment(s) that constitute the Honors Component. If all is in order, Dr. Harnett will sign it and the contract will be kept on file, as the only record of the class as Honors.
