The Committees

Social Events

The Social Events Committee’s main goal is to bring our Scholars together and help build leadership skills in our planning process. As of now, the committee is hosting virtual events to ensure the safety of our members. The Social Event subcommittee divided by event, with three new additional planning subcommittees. Through collaboration, communication, cooperation creativity Scholars host these events and develop professional skills along the way.

Our online events range from educational workshops to game nights, all of which involve lifelong learning and unforgettable fun. Starting this semester, we plan to put on both credit and non-credit events to encourage everyone to become more involved in our organization. Whether or not you join our committee, we welcome all of you to our events and hope you have a great time with us!

Outreach

The main goal of the Outreach Committee is to reach out to prospective students, both on the Glendale Community College campus and to students from nearby high schools, by scheduling presentations and events where we share what the Scholars Program offers dedicated students. The Outreach Committee is responsible for providing all the accurate and necessary information and encouragement to students so that students can join and make the best out of their community college experience. Along with ensuring the future membership of the Program, with the help of the Program Director and the appointed Cabinet, the Outreach Committee takes on projects to help build bridges between Scholars students and the rest of the community found on the GCC campus.

Community Service

The objective of the Community Service Committee is to connect the Scholars on campus with the world around them. This is done through community service opportunities where students can give back to the community and make a difference in the world. Members will gain volunteer experience with various organizations and get in touch with their compassionate side. This committee is about growth on both a personal and worldly scale.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee develops and implements social fundraisers in order to help fund the program, and allow members to interact with each other. The money generated helps fund scholarships for students at Glendale Community College, events hosted by the Program, and for giving back to other organizations on campus. By contributing to the planning of these fundraisers, members have an escape from everyday worries, and get to further enjoy what they have worked hard to put together.

Arts and Culture

The Arts and Culture Committee aims to showcase the creativity of the GCC community through various artistic and expressive media such as poetry, fiction, academic writing, photography, art, and music. All of these works and memories will be collected to publish the Scholars Journal at the end of the year. Committee members, in turn, will be involved in planning A & C events and publishing the Journal. The Arts and Culture Committee serves as a reminder to Scholars that college is not just about academics and résumé-building; it is also about exploring personal talents and creativity.
